Why a golf holiday in Phuket is the best in Thailand

Thailand really has become a world-class golf holiday destination over the past 5-years, with such a high-level of courses in and around Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Phuket. Even paradise islands such as Koh Samui and in the north at Chiang Mai are fantastic places to visit, sample a bit of the local culture, and to play some quality golf.
Although you could have a great golf holiday anywhere across Thailand, what sets Phuket apart from the other locations in Thailand for the best golf holiday experience
Phuket's holiday atmosphere
Phuket is the number one tourist destination in Thailand for the ultimate tropical holiday atmosphere. The beaches, the choice of bars and restaurants, shopping centers, attractions and activities, all combine together to create an all-in-one environment that merges the best aspects of golf with everything you could expect from a tourist destination. You might say the same when comparing Phuket to Samui or some other similar type island, but Phuket simply has more across the board.
Merging tropical with infrastructure
As we mentioned above, Phuket is famous for its ultimate holiday atmosphere, but being an island can cause other problems, usually centered on infrastructure. This is where Phuket comes into its own. When compared to the other Thai islands, Phuket is head and shoulders above with its solid infrastructure. Whether it's the roads, the international airport, international schools, shopping centers and more, Phuket has everything, merging the beautiful temperate climate with a solid foundation and luxury lifestyle attitude.
The choices
Whether it's the choice of golf courses, entertainment zones, attractions, activities or restaurants, Phuket has a fantastic array. With Championship courses such as Blue Canyon and Red Mountain, mid-range courses at Mission Hills, Laguna Phuket, Phuket Country Club and Loch Palm, or the beginner's course and golf academy at Phunaka, Phuket is not just one of the world's most desirable holiday destinations, but is also a golf-lovers paradise.

Do you have the golf bug after watching the 2014 Ryder Cup?

If you are from Europe, the past weekend's celebration of golf at Gleneagles in Scotland was exactly what the Ryder Cup is all about. If you are an American, you can pride yourself in the fact that the Ryder Cup is now the 3rd largest televised sporting event in the world, and that you guys did great but unfortunately lost.
It's quite funny because during the Ryder Cup period, many golf fans, new and old, reacquaint themselves with the old golf bug. It really puts you in the mood for not just a game, but an entire golf holiday away. At Phuketgolf.net we are the experts at creating world-class golf holidays on the island of Phuket, ideal for those addicted golf-lovers and even more so for those new learning golfers who want a real tropical golf experience.
Phuket Golf Tours For Addicts
Those of you who are experienced golfers will love the Championship courses in Phuket, such as the Canyon Course at Blue Canyon Country Club and the Red Mountain Course near Loch Palm in Kathu. Both courses have 5-star facilities, world-class playing conditions, creating the ultimate challenge for a player with a low handicap. Don't get me wrong, both courses are still an amazing experience for golfers with limited abilities as well.

Phuket Golf for Beginners
If you have only just caught the golf bug, you still have some time! Phuket is also the ideal place for golf novices and beginners with the golf academy at the Phunaka GC in Chalong. With amazing practice facilities and a driving range, PGA tour professionals on hand to give you some lessons, and a 9-hole course that is a bit more forgiving than Phuket's other courses, this is the perfect place to start for a golf beginner.

Patong has long been the island's most popular tourist destination for decades, and is also just a 10-minute drive over to Kathu, where you will find some of Phuket's best courses such as Loch Palm, Red Mountain and Phuket Country Club. The remaining courses on the island are located to the north, apart from Phunaka, which makes Patong a very convenient location for a holiday and golf.
Nightlife and Restaurants
A golf holiday is predominantly about golf, however, you cannot spend every waking hour on the course, unless you want to sleep in a bunker of course! Patong is home to the highest concentration of bars, nightlife and restaurants on the island, creating a holiday destination where you will have lots to do, especially at night. With restaurants serving cuisine from the four corners of the globe, you will have lots of choice at your fingertips in Patong, and it's all about choices, right

What I like about playing golf in Phuket

Before I lived in Phuket full-time, one of the main reasons I would visit the island is to play golf. It was a great place to get away for a few days, or when I had more time off from work, a couple of weeks. If you are sat at home now trying to decide where to book your next golf holiday, I would like to share with you what I liked most about visiting Phuket to play golf.
Caddies and hospitality
I am from the UK, so carrying our own clubs around the course is standard. It can be a lonely and desolate game if you don't have a playing partner, and that's why I love playing golf in Phuket. To play all the courses on the island, you need a caddy who carries your clubs, cleans your balls, gives you solid advice regarding yardage and putting slopes while at the same time providing you with company.
The hospitality of Phuket golf courses is world-class. From the gracious staff and the course facilities that have restaurants, changing rooms, swimming pools, and even spas in some cases, the caddies and hospitality on Phuket courses is unparalleled.
The variety of courses
The choice of courses is also something I really like. If I just want to play 9-holes, I can visit Phunaka GC. If I am looking for a challenge, the island's two championship courses, Red Mountain and the Canyon Course at Blue Canyon CC are world-class. There are also a host of other courses that make up the middle ground such as Phuket Country Club, Laguna Phuket GC and Mission Hills Phuket. There is something for every person and mood.
Lots of things to do at night
A golf holiday for me is nothing if I don't have things to do when I am not playing. Phuket has a hedonistic array of nightlife charms with lots of bars, clubs and restaurants right across the island, but mainly in Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin and Raawi. Because Phuket is such a popular world-class holiday destination, there are lots of things to do day or night when not playing golf.

Walk in Jack Nicklaus? Footsteps at Mission Hills Phuket

However, we have our very own Mission Hills Resort in Phuket with an 18-hole course also designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus. Walk in the footsteps of legends by booking a round during your Phuket golf tour at Mission Hills Phuket.
Located on the north-eastern coastline of Phuket, Mission Hills in known for having the most beautiful sea-views and vistas on any golf course across the island. Nestled right next to Phang Nga Bay and the beach, it really is tropical golf at its absolute best.
The course, designed by Jack, has 18-holes and is a par-72. Although the course can be a challenge, it is a real fun experience for golfers of all ages and abilities. The length of the course is 6,806 from the back tees and 6,308 from the front tees, which is quite long by anyone's standards.
Set amidst rubber plantations, the course has a natural beauty that you can't just buy. Although the sea-views might seem dreamy, it can also bring about gusty conditions that are very unpredictable.
Not only is the course top grade, but also the clubhouse facilities are some of the best in Phuket, with excellent changing facilities and a pro shop, alongside a fantastic restaurant and a world-class spa. Mission Hills is perfect for those golfers on holiday with their wives and girlfriends, as you can leave them for a few hour's pampering at the spa while you get down to the business of hitting golf balls in a straight line I hope.

Phuket Golf Holiday For Christmas and New Year

The other day I heard my mother talking about buying Christmas presents and thought, wow, is it that time of the year already We are in the 9th month of a year that has flew by, so now we are talking about 2015. Have you made plans for your winter break over Christmas and New Year If not, a Phuket golf holiday could make for the perfect getaway break for a couple of weeks. You really need to start thinking about booking your holiday soon, so let me give you some reasons to book a Phuket golf holiday for Christmas and New Year.
Getting away from the cold
Across the Western world, Christmas and New Year is a very cold time. How about making the most of your Christmas holidays by visiting a tropical island for the golf holiday of a lifetime Instead of removing snow from your driveway with a sand bucket, you could be relaxing on the beautiful beaches that Phuket is famous for, or enjoying some tasty Thai food in a restaurant with sea-views.
Phuket also has a great choice of golf courses from Championship ones such as Red Mountain and Blue Canyon, to the amazing value-for-money of mid-range courses such as Loch Palm, Phuket Country Club and Mission Hills. The climate is sunny, the conditions are fantastic and you can really recharge your batteries before tacking 2015 with rejuvenated passion.
Best time to visit Phuket
Over Christmas and New Year are the high-season months in Phuket. This is a time when the weather is at its beautiful best with a minimum amount of humidity and no rain. It's also the busiest time on the island which makes Phuket a real party capital over the festive period.
The only problem with booking at this time of the year is that you need to decide quickly or the relevant hotels and resorts might already be at full occupancy. We can organize all your green fees and tee-off times, your accommodation and taxi transfer to and from the courses, and even the airport.

Beginners Guide to Phuket Golf Courses

We and other golf blogs always like to talk about and promote Championship golf courses because it's what most golfers want. However sometimes, golf novices and beginners want a piece of the action too, but as I remember as a novice golfer, Championship courses in Phuket such as Red Mountain and Blue Canyon would have been not only too difficult at that stage of my learning curve, but would have also dented my confidence and made me question whether I should be playing golf or not.
Phuket has such a wide variety of courses, in terms of difficulty. Please see a list below of the best 3 courses on the island for golf beginners and novices.
Phunaka GC & Golf Academy
Phunaka GC is located in Chalong on the south-eastern coast of the island and is the ultimate golf club for novices and beginners. The course only has 9-holes, which are very golfer-friendly with wide fairways and a steady layout. The best thing about the club is their golf academy, equipped with PGA coaches, driving range facilities and lots of practice areas. If you are a beginner, playing your first round on the island at Phunaka is a great choice.

Phuket Country Club
Located in the heart of Kathu, just a 10-minute drive from Patong, Phuket Country Club is one of the island's oldest courses, and home to wide fairways and steady approach shots. Although a few of the holes do tangle with water, this is the second easiest course in Phuket after Phunaka. The course is beautiful, set over 18 holes and is a fantastic experience, especially for a novice.

Loch Palm GC
After a couple of rounds on the island's two easiest courses, Loch Palm at Kathu is a great choice. Although the layout is much more difficult than Phunaka, and slightly more than that of Phuket Country Club, this is one of the island's most beautiful courses with the first 9-holes straddling the crystal lake. The prices are affordable, the staff are friendly and the course is fun.

Phuket Family Activity Hotspots

Thailand has always been a family-friendly country and always will be. Phuket is an especially great place for family holidays. With the tourism demographics rapidly changing on the island towards families, we have listed a selection of activity hotspots specifically geared towards mum, dad and the kiddies.
Phuket Fantasea  Kamala
Quite easily the most family-friendly attraction on the island, Phuket Fantasea is a purpose-built theme park based on Thailand's rich cultural heritage. Ride on the elephants, enjoy the vast selection of amusements and absorb the vibrant atmosphere. The main feature of the park is the majestic theater, sculptured in the vision of one of Thailand's oldest temples. The theatrical performance benefits from immense choreography, breathtaking pyrotechnics, colourful costumes and realistic sound effects. This is the quintessential family activity in Phuket. You can book your tickets through every tour agent and kiosk on the island.
Dino Park Mini-Golf – Kata
Ever wanted to show your kids who the putting kingpin is Dino Park Mini-Golf is one of the best crazy golf courses you could ever wish to visit. Situated in the heart of Kata, guide your ball through a realistic interpretation of the dinosaur era. With fire breathing dinosaurs, volcanoes and dense vegetation as your backdrop, you can shoot for glory on this 18-hole mini-golf course. This is wholesome family fun at its finest.
Kinnaree House  Chalong
If you like your family activities under one roof, Kinnaree House is the place for you. Situated on Patak Road on your way to Chalong Circle, this amazing entertainment complex owns a go-kart speedway track, elephant trekking, ATV racing and the Phuket Shooting range. Imagine the smiles on your children's faces with so many activities at their fingertips. All of these activities can be enjoyed across the island, but nobody can boast all of them within the same complex. This is what makes Kinnaree House at the top of your what to do list.
Splash Jungle Water Park
Kids love water, and what better way to keep them quiet for several hours than taking them to the Splash Jungle Water Park at Mai Khao Beach. With a selection of high octane water slides based on various themes, this is not just fun for the children, but also for mum and dad. Thailand's largest water park is a must visit attraction for families. Tickets can be booked from every tour desk/kiosk on the island.
Phuket Aquarium
What is so great about the Phuket Aquarium at Cape Panwa is that the children will love observing all the marine life at first hand while enjoying an educational experience. This attraction is a favourite with families and is a very affordable afternoon's worth of fun. Situated at the southernmost tip of Cape Panwa, the Phuket Aquarium is widely known by local taxi drivers, which makes reaching Cape Panwa very simple.
Phuket Zoo
There is no better family activity than visiting the zoo. Situated in Chalong, Phuket Zoo is home to an eclectic mix of animals from all over the world. With shows by the moneys, crocodiles and elephants numerous times every day, the kids will love it  and so will you! Take advantage of a photo opportunity with the tigers, but don't be put off by the one-armed tout who tries to initiate your photo options – we swear that the incident was not tiger-related. Nonetheless, a visit to Phuket Zoo is a must for families holidaying on the island.
Phuket Riding Club
Have you ever fancied taking a scenic stroll on horseback on the beach or through dense jungle vegetation The Phuket Riding Club between Rawai and Chalong is your chance to ride these amazing beasts alongside fully trained experts. The family will once again be singing your praises as they majestically glide along Chalong bay on horseback.

Holiday and golf in Koh Samui

Thailand is famous for its stunning islands, especially in the south of the nation such as Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands and Koh Lanta. However, one of the most beautiful islands is Koh Samui, located in the Gulf of Thailand. If you are organizing a Phuket golf holiday and fancy a couple of days away in another location to change things up a bit, Koh Samui is a great choice in every respect.
Samui is very similar to Phuket in terms of terrain, although much smaller, with beautiful elevated coastal roads, fantastic beaches, a decent nightlife scene, especially at Chaweng Beach and a great golf course, known as Santiburi Samui Country Club.
Samui is approximately a 5-hour drive from Phuket but still in the south of Thailand. Areas such as Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam and Bophut are some of the island's busiest and perfect for tourists.
Located on the island's northern coast, Santiburi enjoys some great elevated views out towards the Gulf and outlying islands, making it one of the most scenic courses in the country. Set over 18 holes, with amazing tee and green elevations ranging from 25 to 180 meters, the course is spectacular and very hilly in places. Blending into its natural surroundings, walking the course is pure joy with its waterfalls, rolling hills, streams, valleys and coconut plantations.
The lightning fast greens are a result of the Tifeagle grass that is used on the course, although on the tees and fairways you will find Bermuda grass, which is famous for being soft and spongy. The club has world-class facilities such as a clubhouse where you will find the changing rooms, a restaurant with international and Thai cuisine, a pro-shop and a terrace overlooking the course which enjoys amazing vistas.
The course has hosted pro tournaments on the Asian Tour such as the Bangkok Airways Open in 2006 and The Queens Cup from 2009 to 2012.

Why have golf holidays become so popular?

I am not quite sure whether it is the game itself or the travel market that has changed so much over the past 5 years. Either way, golf holidays and tours have become very popular over the past few years, giving golf fans across the world the opportunity to travel to unknown lands to test their skills against the diverse choice of courses on our planet. So what is the reason for the explosion of golf holidays
Finding holiday information online
People have more control over their holidays than ever before! That's right, in times now past, when you wanted to organize or book a holiday, your choices were limited to visiting your local travel agent on the high-street or from telephone numbers for travel agents advertising in major newspapers and magazines.
With the onset of the internet, the world is literally at your fingertips. All the information you need to find out about different holiday destinations in the world, flight times and prices and even the prices of hotels and vehicle rentals are all readily available for you to explore online. It really has changed the way we organize and choose our holidays and their locations.
No more traipsing down the high-street and being forced to pick from a very limited selection of holiday packages. Now you can have and know it all in nanoseconds!
Golfers love to explore
There is something in the DNA of a golfer that means we can't just play our local course every week and leave it at that. We want more from our game of golf: more choice, more diversity and more golf courses to play in general. We like to try out our limited skills on the best courses from around the world just to prove our mediocrity. It's just the way we are as a breed!
If you are a golfer, there is no better way to enjoy a hard-earned vacation than within the tropical ambience of a holiday destination that has a great selection of golf courses. America, Scotland, Spain, Portugal and Thailand are just a few destinations that expertly balance that serene holiday atmosphere with world-class golf.
All-in-one Phuket golf holiday packages
After you have trawled the internet trying to find the ideal golf holiday location, you will realize that booking with a tried and tested golf holiday agent is the way forward. Phuket, Thailand, is one of the best holiday islands in world, and we're not even talking about golf. The beaches, culture, nightlife and natural beauty are simply awe-inspiring. When you also take into account that Phuket has a fantastic selection of both Championship and mid-range golf courses, it quickly becomes one of the epicenters for golf holidays across the planet.
At Phuketgolf.net, we pride ourselves on our Phuket golf holiday packages that combine the best value-for-money green fees, a great selection of accommodation in the best holiday destinations on the island, and also provide taxi transfers to and from the courses, and even the airport. Now you have researched and found that Phuket is the golf destination for you, you can contact us and we can organize your golf tour, so you can concentrate on having a good time

Book a Phuket Golf Holiday while it is still quiet

Phuket is a very seasonal island in terms of holidaymakers. Indeed, over the course of December through to March, the island is extremely busy, which is great in terms of income for the island's businesses and it also creates a real holiday buzz during this period. However, what some people don't seem to realize is that the island is very peaceful and tranquil for the rest of the year, so it is actually a great time to book a Phuket golf holiday.
Between April and November, Phuket is a great place to be, especially in terms of golf because there is a little more rain, which makes the course very receptive, with less people on the courses, meaning you can easily get the tee-off time on the course you desire. At this time of the year, the flights are cheaper and the hotels are also on low-season rates, making it the most cost effective time of the year for a Phuket golf holiday.
You better move quickly though because as soon as November rears its head, the high-season prices are back in place. We have a great Budget Golf Package for the off-season months that ends on the 31st October, so now is the time to book.
This affordable golf package is set over 6 Nights/7 Days with accommodation in a Twin Share Standard Room at the Bauman Ville Hotel on Nanai Road in Patong. The package also includes playing rounds of golf at the Phuket Country Club, Loch Palm GC and the Lakes Course at Blue Canyon CC. All green fees, caddy fees and transfers to and from the courses are included in the price.
The accommodation is subject to availability and the offer runs from 1st April to 31st October 2014, so move quickly or miss this opportunity.
