Thailand is famous for its stunning islands, especially in the south of the nation such as Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands and Koh Lanta. However, one of the most beautiful islands is Koh Samui, located in the Gulf of Thailand. If you are organizing a Phuket golf holiday and fancy a couple of days away in another location to change things up a bit, Koh Samui is a great choice in every respect.
Samui is very similar to Phuket in terms of terrain, although much smaller, with beautiful elevated coastal roads, fantastic beaches, a decent nightlife scene, especially at Chaweng Beach and a great golf course, known as Santiburi Samui Country Club.
Samui is approximately a 5-hour drive from Phuket but still in the south of Thailand. Areas such as Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam and Bophut are some of the island's busiest and perfect for tourists.
Located on the island's northern coast, Santiburi enjoys some great elevated views out towards the Gulf and outlying islands, making it one of the most scenic courses in the country. Set over 18 holes, with amazing tee and green elevations ranging from 25 to 180 meters, the course is spectacular and very hilly in places. Blending into its natural surroundings, walking the course is pure joy with its waterfalls, rolling hills, streams, valleys and coconut plantations.
The lightning fast greens are a result of the Tifeagle grass that is used on the course, although on the tees and fairways you will find Bermuda grass, which is famous for being soft and spongy. The club has world-class facilities such as a clubhouse where you will find the changing rooms, a restaurant with international and Thai cuisine, a pro-shop and a terrace overlooking the course which enjoys amazing vistas.
The course has hosted pro tournaments on the Asian Tour such as the Bangkok Airways Open in 2006 and The Queens Cup from 2009 to 2012.
